In the video below, I summarize the pros and cons of Niacin… And how to best use it for maximum safety and effectiveness.
“So How Effective Is Niacin For Improving Cholesterol & Triglycerides?…”
Niacin is a very safe nutrient when used at “normal” dosages for general health functions (energy product, fat metabolism, etc.), such as those found in a regular daily multi-vitamin. (which is only 20-60 mgs daily usage.)
Niacin and cholesterol are closely linked, and niacin (vitamin B3) is recommended by some experts to help lower LDL (bad) cholesterol levels within your body.
Some cardiologists prescribe 3,000 milligrams (3 grams, which is 100x higher than the RDA) of niacin per day or even higher amounts for people with very high cholesterol levels.1
But, does it work?… and is it even safe at such an extremely HIGH dosage?…
WARNING #1: It Doesn’t Work
Many studies show that for over half … as much as 67% of people … even 3,000 mgs (or more) of daily Niacin still doesn’t help lower cholesterol. Additionally, the other form of Vitamin B3, “niacinamide” does NOT work at all.2
Additionally, the extended-release prescription form called Niaspan®, has been shown to NOT work in clinical studies8
Is Niacin A SAFE Alternative To Cholesterol Lowering Drugs?
As stated above, for 67% of users at the extreme high dose of 3,000 mgs daily (which is 150x HIGHER than the recommended daily allowance) it still does NOT work2…. and for those that it does help lower cholesterol (the remaining 33%), most people experience the following negative side-effects3, such as
- Stomach aches
In addition to the above side-effects, you have major health problems (see below) and that’s why high dose Niacin should only be done under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional or your medical doctor.
In fact, there is a prescription formula dosage of niacin under the name of Niaspan – which again, is only prescribed through your medical doctor.
WARNING #2: Chronic Toxicity Issues
The main problem with high-dose niacin is the chronic toxicity issues7 that can lead to very serious consequences such as…
- Liver damage
- Eye damage
Many people are not able to continue taking these levels of niacin due to discomfort or danger to their health. And at such a high dose, your body will now create an IMBALANCE to all your other “B Vitamins” and minerals … which leads to MORE problems!
The problem is that at “normal” dosages, niacin does NOTHING for cholesterol problems. And at the EXTREME HIGH dosage that it does work (granted, for only 33% of users), it leads to many negative side-effects … both short and long-term.2,3
Personally, I would not recommend anyone use Niacin for cholesterol reduction, when there are safer alternatives (see below).
“So, What’s YOUR Best & Safest Solution?…”
I’ll be honest with you. No one single ingredient works at 100% effectiveness forever, let alone for every person. And that includes niacin or any other single herb or nutrient.
Think about it. Just like you don’t eat only broccoli for best health, you don’t want to use only one herb or nutrient either.
The best products use a variety of other key ingredients, at specific dosages to help create healthy cholesterol levels, HDL/LDL ratios and triglycerides.
Other key ingredients you should look for when purchasing a product are:
- Red Yeast Rice (extract only)
- Policosanol (make sure it contains specific “octacosanol” and not the cheaper form of “beta-sistosterol”)
- Garlic Extract (make sure it’s Deodorized with 1.3% alliin)
- Pantesin® d-Pantethine
- Guggulsterones (make sure it’s 10% Pure Extract; E and Z)
- Artichoke Leaf Extract (make sure it’s 15% Chlorogenic Acid, 5% Cynarin)
- Phytosterols Complex
Additionally, whatever product you select – make sure it has a liver cleansing formula (because your liver is where cholesterol problems first start) and something to reduce Homocysteine levels (which is 43% cause of heart attacks).4 This is REALLY IMPORTANT!
When the above ingredients are combined together in proper ratios, the “synergy” creates a much more effective solution, at a lower dose – WITHOUT your body adapting or having negative side-effects. That’s the secret!…
Confused? Too Many Options & Choices?
Here’s What Other People Have Done…
Now, you might be thinking, “Geez, I don’t want to take 20-30 pills a day, buying a bunch of bottles and herbs” and I don’t blame you. Who has the time OR money?…
Fortunately, there’s “all-in-one” solution called CholesLo™, which contains the above key ingredients, in specific extracted dosages — in addition to a couple other helpful ingredients.
The feedback has been amazing and since the product has been around since 1999, you know it works!
