5 Popular Foods High In Estrogen, Men Should Avoid

Video Summary

All hormones are useful. Estrogen is good for the body, the brain, heart, bones, and so forth.

The problem is that modern society has higher levels of estrogen these days, compared to 50 years ago and even 20 years ago. Especially in men.

For women, high estrogen is linked to breast cancer, and in men, prostate cancer.

High estrogens are also linked to infertility, impotence in men, and also lowered thyroid function and metabolism.

The truth is, high estrogen levels negatively affect men, much more than women. Estrogen is getting higher and higher, which is causing testosterone levels to go lower and lower.

This can cause lots of negative effects, such as:

  • Muscle loss
  • Fat gain
  • Moodiness and depression
  • Lack of drive
  • Lowered libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Fatigue
  • Gynecomastia (man boobs) in men

If you’re dealing with any one or a few of these problems, then you may have higher estrogen levels which are causing hormonal imbalances.

What’s The Cause Of Higher Estrogen Levels?

A lot of it has to do with the foods we eat.

If you have high estrogen or think you do, then it would be smart to reduce these foods or eliminate them altogether.

  • Soy
This includes soy milk, tofu, tempeh, soybeans and edamame. Soy isoflavones can produce estrogen-like activity in the body by mimicking the effects of natural estrogen.
  • Flax Seeds
They’re incredibly rich in lignans, a group of chemical compounds that functions as phytoestrogens. Flax seeds contain up to 800 times more lignans than other plant foods.
  • Dairy
All milk products, whether from cows, goats, or humans, contain various hormones, including estrogen and progesterone. Cow milk, especially in the US, has the highest levels of female hormones.
  • Dried Fruits
Dried fruits contain various phytoestrogens. Dates, prunes, and dried apricots are a few of the dried food sources highest in phytoestrogens.
  • Grains
Grains contain higher amounts of phytoestrogens. Some of the grains with the highest levels are whole wheat, oats, rye, barley, processed cereals are the worst of the grain foods.

What’s The Worst Food?

The worst one in my opinion is dairy.

Dairy or milk, especially in the US, comes from cows that are pumped full of artificial hormones and drugs to increase milk production and hence, female hormones. That gets through and into the milk.

Secondly, the estrogens are in the natural forms our body recognizes, such as estrogen and estradiol.

Soy, flax, dried fruits, and grains all contain phytoestrogens. They mimic estrogens, but it’s not an exact lock and key. And they can also have some benefits in small amounts.

So, if it was me and I was having estrogen problems, especially if you’re a guy, I’d reduce or eliminate my dairy – especially whole milk dairy products. This is usually cheese.

Secondly, reduce soy products.

Remember, as you lower excess estrogen, you’ll naturally increase your testosterone levels in men, which has lots of health, fitness, and longevity benefits, in AND out of the bedroom.
