Erectile Dysfunction – 5 Popular Medications That Cause It In 2026

    Video Summary

Today I’m going to discuss the top 5 popular prescription drugs that lower sex drive in both men and women, while also causing erectile problems in guys.

I need to give a legal disclaimer; you should always speak to your doctor before you do anything. I’m just sharing facts with you.

    Hypertension (Anti-Hypertensive)

High blood pressure is such a big problem that there are almost a dozen different types of drugs that help lower blood pressure.

    • Diuretics
    • Alpha & Beta-blockers
    • ACE inhibitors
    • Angiotensin receptor blockers (ARB)
    • Calcium channel blockers
    • Adrenergic inhibitors
    • Vasodilators
    • … and a few others

Sadly, most of them cause some sort of libido and erectile problems. And combining 2 or more of them, as do many doctors, obviously makes this situation worse.

Again, aging is a big cause. A better diet, exercise the specific herbs & vitamins can make a big difference.

    Corticosteroids / Stimulants

These are drugs that mimic stress hormones. You’ve probably heard of cortisol, which is a stress hormone and that’s what these drugs replicate or activate in the body.

Unfortunately, as stress hormones such as cortisol, increase your adrenal production, while decreasing testosterone production.

Testosterone is the primary hormone in both men and women that controls your sex drive – physically, mentally and emotionally.

In men, testosterone helps improve erections and in women, it increases clitoral sensitivity.

Some of the more popular corticoid drugs are:

    • Prednisone
    • Hydrocortisone

Also, anything that increases adrenaline, also increases cortisol. Thus, taking any stimulant type of drug will also cause negative sexual effects

These can be ADHD drugs such as

    • Adderall
    • Dexedrine
    • Ritalin
    • Modafinil (Provigil)

Even taking too much caffeine, pre-workout supplements, and similar uppers all increase cortisol and will decrease testosterone.

So, at the very least, you need to decrease your cortisol levels, especially at night, if you want to continue taking stimulants.

Luckily you can improve cortisol levels naturally, using specific herbs and vitamins.

    Antidepressants

I was shocked to find that around 25% of the population is taking antidepressants.

And during the recent problems in our world that we’ve all been dealing with and our health, there’s been a sharp increase in the use of antidepressant drugs.

One of the issues these drugs cause is linked to serotonin, which then decreases dopamine, which then decreases both sexual drive and performance in the bedroom.

Some of the more popular drugs you’ve probably heard of are

    • selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors – SSRI (Lexapro, Prozac)
    • Noradrenaline reuptake inhibitors (Wellbutrin, Zyban)
    • tricyclic antidepressants (Pamelor)

This also leads us to another set of similar drugs, which are:

    Anti-Anxiety (Benzodiazepines)

Many doctors will prescribe these drugs along with or in replacement of antidepressants.

These tend to act as tranquilizers in the body to treat problems such as

    • Anxiety
    • Insomnia
    • Agitation
    • Muscle spasms
    • Panic attacks
    • Pain

Some of the more popular and common drugs are

    • alprazolam (Xanax),
    • lorazepam (Ativan),
    • clonazepam (Klonopin)
    • diazepam (Valium).

By the way, I had once taken a very low dose of Xanax at 0.25 mgs at night to help me sleep. To help my mind and body relax.

I’ve never been a good sleeper and it was fantastic.

However, the next day I was tired, felt very “blah”, unmotivated, I didn’t feel like working, going to the gym or doing anything really

And yes, ZERO sex drive and it was impossible to get an erection.

I stopped using it within a week and found natural herbal alternatives that help improve GABA levels and serotonin, but without any of the negative or sexual side effects.

So if you’re dealing some feelings of anxiety or sadness, I totally understand. I’ve been there. But for most people, drugs cause other negative side effects.

That’s why I use natural herbs instead, to improve my mood and happiness.

    Cholesterol / Statin / Fibrates

Many cholesterol-lowering drugs cause erectile problems in addition to lots of other issues — such as muscle pain and loss, memory problems, liver issues, fatigue, lowered mood and so forth.

These are usually statin and fibrate drugs.

This is because cholesterol is required for the production of many sex hormones – such as testosterone and estrogens. Here’s the full list of 10 medications that kill testosterone and libido.

Any many studies have shown that BOTH men and women who take these drugs, have lowered sexual desire, difficulty achieving an orgasm and in men – difficulty in getting erections.

The goal is to have healthy cholesterol in a youthful range. Not high or low.

However, the cause of these problems from the use of drugs is that they lower your cholesterol and lipids unnaturally. They don’t work WITH your body and thus, the negative effects

For example, taking fish oil or specific herbs and vitamins can support healthy cholesterol, naturally and not cause any of these negative effects and in fact, can actually IMPROVE your libido and erections.

    Other Drugs?…

Today I’ve listed the top 5 most popular prescribed drugs that can cause lowered libido and erectile problems.

Of course, there are many other prescription drugs, as well as over-the-counter (OTC) and street drugs, which I’ll discuss in a future video.

If you’re taking any one or a combination of the drugs I mentioned today, speak to your doctor and consider looking into natural alternatives that I’ve listed below this video.

Because you and I both know that the older we get, the worse our hormones and the bigger this problem will become.

Take action now to improve your drive, which will also improve your mood and confidence.
