Today it’s 2026 I’m going to talk about dopamine and how it relates to your sex drive and erections.
Here’s something most people don’t know.
The excitatory system in animals, including humans, increases drive and libido… Thus, improving your sexual performance and increasing your sex drive.
On the opposite side, the inhibitory system stimulates sexual reward, sedation, and satiety.
Basically, you’re not “hungry” anymore… This kills your sexual drive.
So, if you’re looking for better erections, you need to stimulate the excitatory system and NOT the inhibitory system.
Dopamine: The Core Excitatory System
So, how do you do this?…
Well, the core excitatory system in your brain is the dopamine system.
Which is linked to the hypothalamus and limbic systems, and includes melanocortins (MC), oxytocin (OT), and norepinephrine (NE).
On the opposite side, the inhibitory system contains brain opioids, endocannabinoid (ECB), and serotonin (5-HT) systems that are activated during periods of sexual inhibition and blunt the excitatory system.
This is why inhibitory drugs that increase serotonin, such as SSRI’s like Prozac and similar antidepressant drugs, cause a decrease in libido and your ability to get an erection and achieve an orgasm.
These drugs also negatively affect women’s sexual desire as well.
To keep it simple, drugs that are downers are more inhibitory. Drugs that are uppers are more excitatory.
Testosterone and Sexual Performance
Now, let’s talk about hormones.
In both men and women, testosterone increases dopamine and thus, increases your desire to have sex.
Testosterone also increases the synthesis of Nitric Oxide, which helps improve blood flow to the penis and the clitoris.
For men, this means bigger, fuller, and harder erections.
So, increasing testosterone naturally from within should be your primary goal if you want a higher sex drive and harder erections.
Both because of what testosterone does directly as the primary sex hormone…. But also what testosterone does indirectly with the increase in dopamine, a neurotransmitter.
On the other hand, you want to minimize the inhibitory system, and that means not taking drugs that increase serotonin such as antidepressants.
And also reducing, minimizing, or eliminating marijuana and even alcohol.
These drugs are inhibitory, not stimulatory.
Natural Ways to Boost Testosterone
As far as this first solution of how to increase testosterone levels naturally, from within. I’ve covered this many times before in previous videos.
You can do so with improvements in your lifestyle by eating better, exercising more, improving your sleep, and reducing stress.
If you want faster results, you can take specific herbs that help increase both testosterone and dopamine levels.
The product I’ve been using for 25 years is AlphaViril. It does all of these hormone optimizations and has additional benefits for improving erections.
Increase Dopamine Levels
Now, this is a complex topic because there are 3 variables.
- Increase dopamine.
- Reduce things that deplete your dopamine.
- Increase your sensitivity to dopamine at the receptors.
I’m going to make a detailed video about these 3 factors in a future video soon, so make sure you’re subscribed to my channel so you’ll know when it’s released.
5 Dopamine-Increasing Solutions
[1] Consume the amino acid, L Tyrosine
It’s needed for dopamine production. I take 500 – 1000 mg, 2-3x daily. Do so on an empty stomach.
I take it first thing in the morning and before my workouts. Don’t take it too late in the day as it could cause sleep problems.
Also, another great supplement for improving dopamine levels is Velvet Bean 25% Extract, which contains L-dopa. I take 100 mg, 2x daily or more.
The good news is that this is already found in AlphaViril.
Combined with other testosterone-boosting herbs, it has a very positive synergistic effect on libido and erections.
[2] Make sure you get enough deep-quality sleep
Sleep optimizes all of your youth hormones and neurotransmitters while reducing stress hormones.
If you have to wake up to an alarm, you’re not sleeping enough.
Go to bed earlier. If you have a hard time falling asleep or staying asleep, take natural herbs. I take Deep Sleep Formula every night because it works really well and I don’t wake up groggy.
[3] Exercise daily or at least 3-5x weekly
Lifting weights helps increase both testosterone and dopamine levels.
Plus, you’ll feel more confident with the extra muscle, which is always good for dopamine levels.
[4] Get sunlight and take extra Vitamin D3 and K2
Most people are deficient or have low levels of Vitamin D.
Vitamin D3 is actually a hormone, not a vitamin. It’s very powerful, especially for testosterone and dopamine levels.
I take 1 pill of Perfect Vitamin D&K daily during the summer and 2 pills during the winter.
It also helps boost your immune system and bone density and has so many health benefits.
Remember, take Vit D3 with K2, they work together.
[5] Manage your stress levels
When cortisol levels go up, testosterone levels come down. Also, dopamine levels get depleted and cause receptor damage.
Sleep is super important for lowering cortisol levels. Also, limiting outside stress from the news and negative people is very important.
Unfortunately, the outside world is much harder to control. That’s why I take herbs such as ashwagandha, phosphatidylserine, emodin, and others to help lower my stress hormones.
I take Stress & Cortisol Relief during times of stress or in the evening when you want to lower cortisol levels before sleep.
Summary
So those are 5 proven ways to improve both your testosterone and dopamine levels.
The bottom line is if you want to improve your libido and sexual performance, and improve your mood and confidence – you need to optimize your dopamine levels.
This is done by:
- Increasing your testosterone levels.
- Improving dopamine production and sensitivity.
- Reducing stress hormones.
I’ll do a more detailed video in the future. However, this is a great start…
Now it’s up to you to take action and not just passively listen like most people do.
You owe it to yourself to make these improvements. You deserve it. You’ll feel so much better in life having optimal hormone levels.
