Have you ever had a problem getting an erection when it was time to have sex?
Do you feel insecure about it?
Do you worry about it or get anxious, which makes it even harder to get an erection?
Has it caused you NOT to want to have sex or get into a relationship?
Do you consider yourself a “nice guy”?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then keep reading because you’re not alone.
I’ll talk about one of the HIDDEN causes of erectile problems that most people don’t talk about and guys wouldn’t admit to.
But, more on that in a minute.
First, let’s talk about the 3 types of erections:
- reflexive (associated with physical stimulation)
- psychogenic (from visual or mental images)
- and nocturnal (occurs during sleep)
Most of you know and have seen “morning wood” when you wake up with an erection. And if you don’t, it could be a sign of low testosterone and/or poor blood flow.
Granted, you get these “nocturnal” erections in the middle of the night when you’re sleeping and you aren’t aware of them, unlike the morning one when you see it.
The next obvious cause of an erection is physical touch. Again, if you aren’t able to get or maintain an erection with physical touch, this is primarily due to hormonal imbalance, such as low testosterone and secondarily, poor blood flow.
But, what if you can’t get an erection when trying to have sex, but you have no problem getting erections when masturbating?
This form of erectile dysfunction is more related to psychological reasons and thus, psychological impotence.
This would include stress, anxiety, depression, guilt, low self-esteem, and relationship issues.
And that’s what I’m going to focus on today – your mind, which is super powerful at causing erections and having orgasms.
And before I start, know that optimizing testosterone and other sex hormones will definitely improve psychological causes of impotence, in addition to the physical causes.
I’ll share with you the best testosterone-optimizing tactics.
But, let me first start with a personal story…
Anxiety & Sexual Performance
Many men who have psychological erectile problems do so because of anxiety and worry.
You are overthinking the situation and can’t stay in the moment.
This is even worse these days when people have more ADHD and overly stimulated brains and have become dopamine-resistant.
You start to think about all sorts of stupid things:
- What is she thinking
- Am I doing this correctly
- Penis size
- Past performance issues
- Her sexual history – less history, more mystery
If you’re under stress because of work or money or something else, you might start thinking about that stuff and again, your mind goes somewhere else.
You start feeling insecure for a variety of reasons:
- Money
- Compared to her ex
- Penis size
- Your body
- Balding
- Your height.
- Are you going to last long enough?
And the more you think about this stuff, the worse things get. You start to obsess over it.
Like the person who has insomnia and the more they think about it, the more awake they become.
And the reason your penis stops working is because your mind sends out stress signals, releasing stress hormones such as adrenaline and cortisol.
These are “fight or flight” hormones, not relax and have sex hormones.
These are survival hormones, not let’s make a baby hormone.
These hormones send more blood to your muscles so you can run and get away and less to the penis to have sex.
In fact, this is why taking stimulants such as Adderall, ephedrine, many ADHD drugs, cocaine, and yes – even caffeine, causes erectile problems.
These “uppers” cause your penis to shrink inward. Like a scared turtle. Or when your penis is in cold water.
Ironically, the increase in dopamine with such stimulants may increase your DESIRE to have sex, but they can prevent your ability to get an erection.
So, what’s the solution?…
I’ll get to that in a minute.
Percentage Of Men Affected By Psychological Impotence
But first…, if any of this makes sense to you or you have felt such situations, just know that you are NOT alone.
Studies show that 25% or more of men are affected by this. The number might be higher since men are too embarrassed to admit to it.
Also, younger men who have fewer sexual experiences, tend to have more psychological erectile problems.
While older men over the age of 40, tend to have more physical erectile problems due to hormonal imbalances and aging.
How Do You Know If It’s Psychological Or Physical Impotence?
Physical causes of erectile dysfunction are typically due to:
- Hormonal imbalances, such as low testosterone and/or high estrogen levels.
- Poor blood flow is another reason, which is linked to diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, obesity, and so forth.
- Many drugs can also cause it – such as those for prostate, hair loss, blood pressure, cholesterol, sleep, anxiety and depression.
- Then there are street drugs such as alcohol, marijuana, uppers, downers and so forth.
As you can see, there are lots of factors that can cause physical erectile problems.
However, how do you know if something is linked to psychological reasons?
Can you say “yes” to the following:
- Do you get morning erections?
- Can you get erections when you masturbate?
- Are you under extra stress – work, relationships, money, etc.?
- Are you dealing with extra anxiety or feeling sad or depressed?
- Do you get nervous about pleasing your partner?
- Do you feel insecure when it comes to having sex or sexual performance?
If you say yes to one and certainly more than one of these situations, then you might also be dealing with psychological issues causing your erectile problems.
Stress & Anxiety
If you’re dealing with stress and/or anxiety about something, sex is probably the last thing on your mind.
Depression & ED
If you’ve been feeling down or hopeless or lost or somewhat depressed for a while, you don’t want to have sex.
And this can also be linked to hormonal and neurological imbalances, such as dopamine and serotonin.
These days, we have overstimulated dopamine, and thus, the receptors are somewhat “saturated” and less responsive.
So, you feel “blah” and unmotivated and not driven.
That lack of dopamine sensitivity causes a lack of drive and thus, you don’t want to pursue sex.
Relationship Issues
If you’re in a relationship and things aren’t going well… you’re arguing a lot… you feel like you’re not “good enough”… you feel depleted… criticized… and so forth, all of this is a turn-off.
You probably have some resentment or anger.
Worst of all, you might just be completely apathetic, and thus, you don’t care.
Again, no need or desire to perform sexually.
Porn Dependency / Addiction
Porn has become a big problem these days for guys.
If you’re watching porn all the time and that’s the way your brain and body gets an erection… You might get anxiety or “stage fright” when it comes to an actual human sexual performance.
When you watch porn, you’re in control. You pick and choose what you want to watch, you can fast-forward, skip and so forth.
You watch only what you want and when you want.
This is NOT how reality is and thus, you get anxiety and can’t perform.
Or your sense of reality is fake since you’re mainly watching fake porn.
The other problem is porn can make a guy feel insecure since most porn actors have above-average penis size. They seem to get hard in seconds, stay erect as long as they want, and then orgasm on command.
You then start to compare yourself to such people and that’s a really bad idea.
These guys are the best of the best.
You don’t compare yourself to Michael Jordan when you play basketball or Einstein when you’re learning something…. Right? … You know better. You know it’s not realistic.
YET, if all you do is watch big dicked porn guys, you start to feel very insecure about yourself.
This causes performance anxiety.
I have an entire course on how to grow your penis if you’re interested. It’s free and the link is below in the description area.
Guilt
Lots of people, due to their upbringing, culture, or religion feel guilt around sex. Many times it’s subconscious and you don’t even realize it.
So, feeling guilty about the topic of sex can cause psychological erectile problems.
Low Self Esteem
Lastly, having low self-esteem for a variety of reasons is a big underlying cause of psychological erectile problems.
Maybe you feel like you’re not good enough, big enough, rich enough, good-looking, smart, and so forth.
Or you lack sexual experience.
All of these things cause you to overanalyze the situation, and not be in the moment and then stress hormones go up, blood flow decreases, penis shrinks and now you start to panic and become compulsive about and from that point onward, things only get worse!
What’s The Solution?
Okay, so now you know all the potential causes and reasons for having psychological erectile problems.
But, what’s the solution?
Well, it depends on YOUR specific situation. It depends on what factor or factors that are causing the psychological problems specifically for YOU!
Let’s talk about some of the different scenarios you might be dealing with.
And before I start, remember – if you optimize your hormones and increase your testosterone levels, your psychology and mindset ALSO improve.
ONE important thing I’ve realized is that many psychological issues in men are linked to being a “nice guy”.
Yes, this is something I had to deal with personally for many years. In fact, most of my 20’s and 30’s.
I almost hate myself for it and have so much regret. And I don’t want this to happen to YOU.
Penis Size
I know a lot of guys don’t feel good about the size of their penis. Especially when you watch a lot of porn.
Then you hear women saying how they like big dicks or that a guy has to be at least 6 or 7 inches or more.
I have so many of these stories myself that maybe I’ll share them with you in a later video or probably on a private membership site for us guys.
But the first thing is, that women don’t know how to measure. They’re so lame. So, forget what they say.
As far as porn, as I said earlier, these guys a doing porn BECAUSE they have large dicks. So, stop comparing yourself to them. It’s totally unrealistic.
Again, I made a detailed guide about improving your penis size and hardness.
Stress
If you’re dealing with stress, whatever it is, if there’s something you can do about it, great – then do it.
If you can’t, then stop focusing on it.
95% of your time should be spent on SOLUTIONS, not problems.
Most unsuccessful people do the opposite, they focus the majority of their time and energy on the problem.
Relationship
If you’re not happy in your current relationship, first see what YOU can do to make improvements. What are YOU doing that’s hurting your relationship? Maybe get therapy.
Speak to your partner about whatever the issue is and if they don’t respond favorably, then move on.
Don’t blame, just share.
IF they criticize and don’t empathize, forget about it.
Life is too short to be in a miserable relationship.
Porn
If you watch a lot of porn, reduce it. Maybe just take a break from it for a week or a month. It does cause problems, especially in younger guys.
Experience
If you feel insecure about your lack of experience or ability to satisfy sexually, ask for guidance from your partner.
Stop trying to figure it out. Just ask how you can please them and do it.
Each girl is different, but they all want to be given to and listened.
Depressed
If you’re feeling down or depressed or feeling sorry for yourself, STOP IT.
Whatever it is, you’re making it way worse in your head than it is in reality.
TRUST ME, I did this for many years.
I look back now and think what an idiot I was. It was all in my head.
Just remember, “This too shall pass”.
Have an “attitude of gratitude”.
Stop focusing on yourself or blaming others.
YOU ARE THE MAN.
YOU take action.
It’s YOUR life.
Whatever you are or wherever you are, you can be better and that’s all you can do.
Compare yourself to NOBODY.
Only compare you to yourself from before.
Get inspired and learn from others and then apply that to YOU and YOUR life and achieve YOUR goals.
You’re in charge.
With enough hard work, patience, persistence, and a positive attitude, you can achieve amazing things.
Have long-term goals and look at them daily.
