Vitamin D is a steroid hormone produced from cholesterol when your skin is exposed to sunlight.
So if you’re not eating some cholesterol in your diet and/or you’re on a cholesterol-lowering statin drug – you are most likely deficient in Vitamin D.

Get More Sun
The first and primary thing you should do is get more sunlight on your skin. Your skin uses cholesterol to produce Vitamin D.
You need at least 10-30 min daily of midday sunlight. The more skin, the better the production of Vit D.
Eat Fatty Foods
The two best sources are fatty fish such as salmon, which is also high in healthy Omega 3 fatty acids.
And also egg yolks.
Just make sure the Salmon is wild-caught and the eggs are from pasture-raised, free-range chickens which have 4-5x more Vit D.
Take Specific Supplements
I personally just tell everyone to take a supplement because most of us simply do not get enough daily sunlight and aren’t consuming salmon and whole eggs daily.
First, the correct form is Vitamin D3 – so read your labels.
Now, one problem with taking Vitamin D is that it can increase calcium levels in your arteries.
You don’t want this because it can potentially cause a blockage and lead to a heart attack or stroke… especially if you have high cholesterol, blood pressure, or blood sugar levels.
Thus, it’s best to also take Vitamin D3 with another fat-soluble vitamin called K2.
Vitamin K2 takes calcium out of the blood and arteries and deposits it into the bones where it belongs.
Also, there’s a special vegan, a micro-encapsulated form of Vitamin D3 and K2 that’s more absorbable and bioavailable. This means it works better, and this is especially important as we get older and don’t absorb nutrients as well.
