Celebrity breakdowns always seem to reach the headlines and front cover of various Hollywood celebrity magazines. It should come as no surprise that more than 54 million Americans suffer from some form of mental illness. The most notable public meltdowns have been caused by those suffering from bipolar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, narcissistic personality disorder, deep depression, or addiction issues.
Many of these mental disorders cause celebrities to experience mood swings and erratic behavior or may contribute to a chemical imbalance. Celebrities such as Charlie Sheen and Lindsey Lohan experience an increasing sense of self importance leading to their own self destructive behavior. Those whom suffer from clinical depression account for more than 5% of America’s population, leaving many experiencing feelings of sadness and frustration that interfere with their ability to live a normal daily life. Lastly, symptoms of addiction can impact the sufferer by making changes to their body chemistry, increasing feelings of anxiety and stress.
